I am also of the same mixture, I am Half Swedish on my mother’s side and Half Nigerian (African) on my father’s side and it is interesting how your baby got blue eyes and light brown hair like her father. From what I’ve learned about genes are dominant and recessive genes and in order for a baby to have blue eyes, both parents must have the blue-eyed gene and it is the same for hair colour as well. So maybe you could take a genetic test and perhaps trace your ancestry to see if you have any white in you since African-Americans are said to have between 10-25% White European blood in them, but I found it exotic and unusual in a good way that the child could come out looking like that with one of the parents being a totally different race. I am Half Swedish but I have brown eyes so…it makes me think a little…if you don’t have a blue-eyed gene, then that does not justify to dominant and recessive genes and giving blue eyes to the child, which I find weird but interesting…your child is really cute heh heh.
I think she would know whether or not she has any white ancestry ( if it’s not as direct as belonging to a great-grandparent it’s not 10-25%) lol. Your entire post made no sense to me lol. Both of Sydney’s parents don’t have to have “dominant” genes in regards to her blue eyes. Her mother’s black, her father’s white and she gets them from her dad, it’s as simple as that. An “explanation” (if one is needed) for her eyes could be that the blue eyed gene is dominant on her father’s side of the family, not her mom’s. I’m Italian and Australian and I have blue eyes though both my parents have brown/hazel eyes. I’m told that I get them from my paternal great-grandmother so they clearly aren’t dominant. Things like that often happen in families (as is the case with a lot of the kids on this site, their parents mentioning them having features identical to ancestors), it’s not uncommon. Sydney’s a beautiful child regardless of how she got that way or from whom she received what features…..
Scarlet let me first start off by telling you that you and your husband have a precious little girl; I also checked out the twins and they are also very adorable. I just don’t understand why you believe that your childs appearnce is not the norm? What is the norm Scarlet? This little girl looks a lot like you in the face she clearly has her fathers features as well but I believe your dna and gene pool attributed to the recessiveness and dominance of your childrens genes. Your connection to your childs appreance is not just in her facial features. With Biracial chldren is pretty much the roll of the dice. Also with so much race mixing no one is 100% anything these days. They say that one day were all gonna look alike. That’s kind of hard to believe and a little scary. I honestly like the world colorful as it is. I think black is beautiful, white, native american spanish, asian, indian. You find beauty within all races, or at least I do (perhaps I’m wierd) It seems to me like everyone thinks Sydney is beatufiul becasue she is fair skin and has blue eyes that makes me sad! I think your dark eyed twin baby is just as beautiful. I hope when you go out in public everyone is not gawking and commenting on how pretty the blue-eyed children’s eyes are overlooking the dark eyed baby. Wow, omg…i see a lot of interracial couples but i would never guess they were together!!the dad with the blond mustache looks like some German rural farmer guy and the mom looks like an outgoing Atlanta type of girl…I guess I had some stereotypes there i didn’t even realize! Her eyes are gorgeous…makes me think the mom must have some white in her.

You have a beautiful child. I think it interesting that there is so much debate and confusion over Sydney’s looks. Black women have been giving birth to the spectrum for centries. It was not until other ethnicities started having biracial babies that gentic questioning even had credability. I come from a southern grandfather who was born on a Native American reservation in Mississippi to a half black mother. He has hazel blue eyes and are red hair. My Grandmother, is considered dark skinned (her mother biracial from a slave/master relationship). They had 10 children. Of those 10 children, none of them are the same shade. The span the spectrum in beautiful color. Black women have the ability to give birth to a nation. I think the most amazing thing about have children is that they present the BEST of both parents.

Sydney is so beautiful. I have twins, my husband is red haired of Russian Jewish ancestry, I’m a Heinz 57, Filipino, Cherokee, Irish, French, German. Our twins look very different both girls. one small fine boned very light skin, curly brown hair with light streaks, our other darling is tall, medium boned, olive complexion and reddish tightly curled hair. Most people think that they may be cousins and that our younger( by one minute) and taller daughter is almost 1 year older. Fun for us. Good Luck

Sydney is a breautiful little girl! I have a 20 month old little boy who is 1/2 Italian (my side) and 1/2 Northern European (Polish/Russian Jewish). You would think that the olive skin and dark eyes and hair would be dominant, but in my case, my son is very fair skinned with blue/green eyes and light brown hair. He looks nothing like me! But he’s got the eyes that will be ladykillers one day…he’d be a great match for Sydney, lol!

It’s rather amazing to read most of these responses about this beautiful little girl. It’s obvious that the ones that have a problem with it or that are questioning the parents have no clue to what GOD can do. Genetics is a magnificent thing and if you can’t allow your mind to think outside the box ,then you should’nt make comments, it just shows your ignorance and let’s us see how racial you really are. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter whose genes did what and who is accredited to SYDNEY looking the way she does, she’s a gift from GOD, and HE can do whatever HE wants. You never know what your baby will look like when the parents are not mixed or biracial, so think (if your small brain allows for that) all the possiblilities with having parents of other races. I mean it’s great she’s so cute, but is it really that serious what she looks like? I’m sure Scarlet and the father (forgot his name, sorry) are more concerned with the fact that SYDNEY is alive and well. and from what i’ve read, doing very well 16 months and already speaking and understanidng 2 languages. Why would i be suprised what her parents look like? Black is not dirty or tar or oil. It does not take over a babies look (just black) I got offended when my dauther was born becasue a nurse checked my I.D. badge to see if the child was mine and I am not even that dark skinned and have a very light skinned mostly ot black mother. I told the nurse “the baby looks the same as went it came out” and I was looking a my vagina, LOL.

I just hit 30 weeks on Thursday so it’s getting TOUGH now! You made my day saying that I am pretty pregnant. Girl, my stomach is already as big as when I delivered Syd and she was 8lbs 2oz! I feel like I’ve been kicked in the coochie, BUT in a few short weeks two more little gems will be here! We are so excited!

Not a problem Christina … we living in Stockholm so our daughter is also speaking Swedish. Her dad speaks Swedish to her and I English even though I speak Swedish as well. The language goes into her so easily. At 16 months, she already understands both and speaks more Swedish than English, but the English is coming, It would be a real shame not to take advantage of bilingualism for our little one!

Sydney is adorable. My daughter got more of me, since I am Mexican. Her father is white from the South and claims to have been always white in the family. But his genes are not as strong as mine.

I beg to differ. Swedish genes are in fact very strong … There are so many mixed race children (mixed with Chinese, Japanese and African) that are very fair and have light eyes. The non swedish parent does not have soft features either.

You Can Tell By The Pigment In Her Skin.She Would Be Lighter.The Baby Has A Little Pigment In The First Picture.But Sweedish Gene’s Are Very Strong.Basically She Has More Traits From Her Father, An That Tends To Occur When The Child Looks Like One Parent And The Other Parent Looks Totally Different.

Nope, I am Sydney’s mamma and although I’m not dark, I am far from light skinned with dark brown eyes. He daddy is 100% swedish so blond/brown hair and striking blue eyes. I’ll have to upload a picture of us two together so you can really see how crazy the whole gene thing is. I am pregnant again with twins this time so it’s going to be interesting to see if Syd was just an anomoly??

Why say you’re not dark-skinned when you appear to be? Unless you were sunworshipping for hours and hours and the pic is an anomaly then you do have dark skin. Nothing to be ashamed of.

We have been experiencing a heat wave this summer so my daughter is actually quite tan in these photos. Her ‘normal’ coloring is more like her father, but of course her ability to tan easily and quickly is there from my genes.

We live in Sweden (Stockholm) and it’s been between 25-30 for the last few weeks. We have no marine layer and the humidity is outrageous. I’m originally from So California so am use to heat, but seems like not much air conditioning going on in Europe. Not to mention I am pregnant and huge and already sweating my arse off!

The first one is her daughter Mimi and the second is her daughter Brooklyn who is half black and white. Her father is Italian I believe. Mimi’s father is also white and she happens to look just like him.
There is no updated picture of Mimi though.
